Zinc comes in three shapes: as sheet metal from the roof, as die casting part from fittings and engine compartment, and – more often than not – as galvanized steel, where only a hint of zinc sits on iron. The first two bring proceeds, the third is iron scrap. Zinc Lead, zinc & electric motors.

All forms run under the grade Zinc:
- Dachzink: roof gutters, drop pipes, throat and locating plates, matt light grey with patina.
- Zinc sheet as cut, punching residue and roll end from sheet metal processing and roofing.
- Zinc die-casting: door handle, window gearbox, carburettor and pump housing, model cars.
- Sacrifice anodes of boats, boilers and pipelines, also heavily eaten.
- Zinc anodes, zinc bars and residues of galvanic and galvanic zinc.
- Zinc plates from the printing industry as well as painted and chromed zinc parts, as long as no iron core sits under them.
We don't buy this
- Galvanized steel: profiles, perforated sheets, fences, corrugated sheet, bucket. The magnet adheres, the zinc layer weighs hardly anything – that is Iron scrap.
- Zinc die casting with pressed steel axis or riveted fitting: inseparable, this is mixed scrap.
- Brass and nickel silver, which are held for zinc: yellowish, harder, bright finish – see Brass.
- Aluminium parts: similarly bright, but strikingly light – those run over Aluminium.
- Zinc dust, zinc oxide and scabies: powdery, waste disposal business.
- Batteries, including zinc-coal cells: this is what the trade is taking back.
Zinc detection: the characteristics
The magnet decides: zinc is not magnetic, galvanized steel adheres immediately. Zinc is light grey with bluish shimmers, becomes matt and does not rust; brown flags on an edge betray iron underneath, a mark remains gray. Zinc is brittle: After a few bends, a sheet breaks, the fracture surface is coarse crystalline. Beaten, it sounds dull; in weight it is above aluminum and under lead.
Sheet, die casting, galvanized steel
Sheet metal has uniform thickness, grooves, rivets and soft soldering seams. Die casting shows cast iron, ejector points and form seams and breaks brittle with crystalline surface. Galvanized steel carries a thin, often flamed patterned zinc layer; it bursts when bending and releases steel that rusts within days.
How the sale is done in four steps

- Weighing at Ludwigshafen am Rhein on calibrated scales, classification according to the actual grade; the weighing slip is yours.
- Payment within 24 hours of receipt of the weighing slip, for businesses by credit in accordance with § 14 para. 2 VATG.
Minimum quantity, shipping costs, payout
There is no minimum quantity. Package shipping up to 1,000 kg, per package maximum 31.5 kg, 6 euros per package, charged with the payment; the shipping label comes from us by e-mail. Collection from 500 kg throughout Germany, the collection costs are staggered by distance, lie between 40 and 350 Euro and are fixed before the journey. Roofers from the Rhine-Neckar region deliver themselves: Industriestraße 4, 67063 Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Mo to Sa 9 to 18 o'clock, without appointment – follow further delivery points. Minimum payment of 25 euros, from 1,000 euros the money laundering law requires an ID card. Questions about Zinc
How fast is the money coming?
We pay out within 24 hours of receipt of the weighing slip. Weighing on a calibrated scale, the weighing slip is yours. In the case of parcel shipping, 6 euros per package will be charged with the payment. The money laundering law requires an ID card from 1,000 euros.
Is there a minimum amount for zinc?
Nope. A single roof channel is weighed as well as a lattice box die casting. Only transport is limited: by DHL up to 1,000 kg Germany-wide, per parcel maximum 31.5 kg; collection from 500 kg; delivery in Ludwigshafen am Rhein without minimum quantity. Payments are made from 25 euros.
How do I distinguish zinc from galvanized steel?
The magnet decides in two seconds: zinc is not magnetic, galvanized steel adheres. If in doubt, file an edge – if it remains grey, it is zinc; if it becomes rust brown after days, iron was underneath. After a few bends zinc sheet breaks brittle with crystalline surface, steel sheet bends further.
Can I send zinc and galvanized steel together?
Better not. Galvanized steel is iron scrap, and an unseparated mixture is billed according to the kind it actually gives – which results in the proceeds for real zinc. Sort with the magnet before, then the delivery is clear and the weighing is faster.
Private or commercial – does that make a difference?
Not when you buy it, but when you settle it. Private customers receive a weighing slip and payment. We charge companies by credit in accordance with § 14 para. 2 VATG; for scrap metal, the recipient of the benefit owes the tax in accordance with § 13b para. 2 no. 7 VATG. Roofers and installers usually supply themselves.
Do varnish, chrome and roof board have to be removed?
Coating and chrome on zinc sheet or die casting do not interfere. Iron parts must be removed: nails, screws, steel axes in fittings and riveted steel sheets. You should knock off the roof board, sealant and concrete residues, because everything that hangs on the zinc is later on the calibrated scale.
