Lead prices by grade – and sell directly

There's not one lead price, there's one per kind. What your scrap metal does is determined by purity, alloy and adhesion – not by weight alone. Enter your amount: The expected proceeds are immediately next to it, and you can put the grade right into the sales basket.

Current lead price: the current state of play

A lead price is always only valid for the day it is created – therefore the table is at the top of this page and not in the flow text. There you will find the stand for Lead and Lead bullets and shot, each with date. The neighbouring metals are in the overview Metal prices.

Why the Lead Price Moves

Lead is listed on the London Metal Exchange, daily and in dollars. The lead is recorded in standard bars, not the roof lead from a throat or the weights of a rim.

Lead is the quietest among the stock exchange metals: demand is dependent on batteries, radiation protection and cable coats. The quotation therefore fluctuates less violently than in tin – but it fluctuates daily, and with it the purchase price above, which is followed every working day.

Why the purchase price is below the quotation

Between your delivery and the quotation, there is work: sort, separate foreign metals, weigh, transport to the hut, burn down while melting. In addition, there are reductions for pollution – sand, roof board, paint, steel cores in balancing weights – and the alloy component that weighs but is not paid. Larger quantities of a grade distribute the effort over more kilos, hence the quantity stages.

What distinguishes the lead price per grade

Lead is the grade for soft, grown lead: tube lead, lead sheets, roof lead, cable coats, lead wool, balance weights, radiation protection plates.

Lead bullets and shot is conducted separately, because it is different: than lumps and remains of ball-caps, mostly mixed with sand, dust and remains of mantle metal. Sieving and cleaning cost labor, and that's exactly what separates the two prices.

What you see in lead: It is so soft that the fingernail pulls a visible trace into it. It has started to be grey and surprisingly heavy for its size – a handful of lead weighs noticeably more than a handful of zinc. Curved lead remains bent, it does not spring back, and a hammer blow leaves a wide bump. Zinc, on the other hand, is lighter, feathers and breaks brittle.

Selling lead: this is how it comes to us

Lead is heavy, which is why the package limit counts: You send in up to 1,000 kg by DHL throughout Germany, in packages of a maximum of 31.5 kg – preferably several small, stable cartons. The shipping label comes from us by e-mail, 6 euros per package will be charged with the payment. From 500 kg we pick up Germany-wide, the collection costs are staggered after distance (40 to 350 Euro) and are fixed before the journey. quantity and grades you describe about the Tender form. Also goes to bring yourself: Industriestraße 4, 67063 Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., without appointment. Further delivery points follow, more under Delivery.

Weighing on a calibrated scale, the weighing slip is yours. Payment is made within 24 hours, starting from a minimum payment of 25 euros.

What you can do for a good price

Keep lead and bullet lead apart – mixed is evaluated according to the weaker percentage. Steel clamps and screws pull out with the magnet, sand and earth shake off: foreign material is weighed, but not paid for as lead.

The initial classification is done by selecting the grade at the time of sale; it is calculated according to the actual grade. The neighbouring grades are listed under Lead, zinc & electric motors.

Lead Price per kilo: Soft lead and bullet lead

Soft lead from pipes, plates and covers is the highest grade. Shot lead from shot stands is charged separately because copper coat and sand content are added. Lead wool and lead wadding are below it because of the contamination. It's not how heavy the lead is.

Selling lead: lead batteries and what is not lead

Lead batteries from vehicles and plants are a separate grade with their own price, because housing and acid are treated separately. What is often thought of as lead and none is: zinc sheet and galvanized steel. The scratch sample helps – lead can be scratched with the fingernail, zinc cannot.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about lead

What's the lead price on?

At the London Metal Exchange listing for lead. The demand is largely covered by recycled lead, so lead fluctuates more quietly than copper or tin. When buying, the grade also counts: Soft lead made of sheet metal and tube is above hard lead with antimony content. All grades are subject to: Lead and zinc.

How do I distinguish lead from zinc?

At weight: Lead is about one and a half times as dense as zinc, an equal piece is much heavier in the hand. Lead is soft — the fingernail leaves a trace, a sheet can be folded, the cut surface shines briefly and then starts to appear matte grey. Zinc is harder, sounds brighter and breaks instead of bending. Magnetic is neither.

Why does high-speed lead bring less than bare rolling lead?

Because the oxide layer disappears as scabs when melted — less is left of the product. In addition, what sticks to the lead: mortar and brick residues from the dismantling, old paints, soldered steel parts, dowels and screws, with long stored goods also earth. Lead wool from pipe sockets almost always comes with cement and rust and belongs collected separately.

Why does a larger item bring lead more than several small shipments?

Two things come together: each grade has a quantity scale, from whose limit we pay more, and each package costs 6 euros shipping costs, which depart from the payout. In the case of lead, the density is added — 31.5 kilograms per package are reached with a small cardboard box, and half a filled moving carton of rolled lead has long been too heavy. From 500 kilograms we pick up Germany-wide, you can deliver without appointment in Ludwigshafen.

Do you buy bullet lead from the ball?

Yeah, we run bullet lead as our own kind. It must be free of sand, earth and gravel, otherwise screening material weighs to a good part soil from the ball catch. Coat shells bring copper and partly steel; the magnet brings out steel cores. Sharp ammo, spark plugs and propellants are not part of the broadcast, only projectiles shot down.
