A stainless steel price applies only to the day it is created – that's why the table is at the top of this page and not in the flow text: each grade with its current status and date. All grades show Metal prices, group Stainless steel.
Why the price of stainless steel moves
Stainless steel itself is not recorded, its alloy elements are. The reference market is the exchange-day nickel quotation on the metal exchange, plus the prices for ferrochrome and molybdenum, which are fixed monthly or quarterly. From these sizes the steel industry forms its alloy surcharge, and that is also what the purchase price of scrap depends on. Nickel is the most mobile element in the mixture: it only accounts for around eight percent of the alloy in V2A, but causes the majority of the variation.
Why the purchase price is below the quotation
The notes are pure nickel and standardized precursors, unused railings and piping. In between are analysis and sorting by alloy, separating iron adhesions, cutting too long parts, weighing and transport. The more varietal your delivery, the smaller this range.
What distinguishes the price of stainless steel per grade
V2A waste up to 1,5 m Chromium-nickel steel 18/8 with the material number 1.4301, often called Nirosta: around 18 percent chromium, 8 percent nickel, the most common grade. V4A waste up to 1,5 m contain additionally molybdenum, for example in composition 20/10/2. The molybdenum makes the steel acid-resistant and the price significantly higher, because it is the most expensive element in the alloy. The length limit of 1.5 m is a real acceptance criterion for both grades: Shorter parts can be loaded without cutting. V2A stainless steel turnings are the same alloy, but are below – oil, emulsion and moisture weigh along, which oxidizes large surface, and chips are more complex than aggregates in melting operations.
Selling stainless steel: this is how it comes to us
You can send up to 1,000 kg via DHL throughout Germany: Choose a grade, specify the quantity, shipping label comes from us by e-mail, parcels are delivered – per package a maximum of 31.5 kg, 6 euros per package will be charged with the payout. We pick up from 500 kg all over Germany; the collection costs are staggered after distance (40 to 350 Euro) and are fixed before the journey. Weighing on calibrated scale, the weighing slip is yours, will be paid within 24 hours, minimum payout 25 euros. The initial classification is done with the varietal selection itself; it is calculated according to the actual grade. For larger quantities request an offer.
What you can do for a good price
Keep V2A and V4A apart, this is the biggest lever: In the mixture, the whole delivery is evaluated according to the weaker grade. The magnet is only suitable as a preliminary test – both types are usually not or only weakly magnetic, it does not allow them to be separated; the material number from the documentation helps with plant parts. Welded steel feet, hinges, seals and insulating wool belong to, parts over 1.5 m previously shortened. Collect chips dry and without iron chips.
V2A scrap price and V4A: the difference in price
V2A and V4A differ in molybdenum content, and V4A is therefore higher. This is not recognizable in the appearance: both are blank, neither rust. Plant parts from chemistry and food construction are often V4A, kitchen and furniture construction mostly V2A. Anyone who finds the material number on the component has the answer safely.
Stainless steel purchase: alloy surcharge and magnetic sample
The price of stainless steel follows the alloy surcharge for nickel and chromium, which is different from that for copper. The magnetic sample is worth it before: If the magnet sticks, it's not a V2A or V4A, but ferritic steel – another type and a different price. Tubes and sheets with weld seams are tested in several places.
Questions about Stainless Steel
Why is the price of stainless steel moving with the nickel price?
Because nickel is the most expensive alloy element and is listed on the London Metal Exchange: V2A contains about eight percent, V4A a good ten. Chromium is contained in it at about 18 percent, but is traded as ferrochrome and not on a stock exchange; the same applies to molybdenum in V4A. Therefore, the price of Stainless steel scrap Especially the nickel.
How do I know whether a sheet metal is V2A or V4A?
First at the material number: 1.4301 and 1.4307 are V2A, 1.4401, 1.4404 and 1.4571 are V4A. If the stamp is missing, the origin helps — chemistry, sewage treatment plant, swimming pool technology and seawater environment work with V4A. The magnet is not good: Both qualities are austenitic and become slightly magnetic due to cold forming on edges and cuts. I'm sure it's just a test with a measuring device.
Why are V2A chips under V2A waste?
Cooling lubricant hangs on chips, and it weighs with it. In addition, grinding dust from the same hall and the handle in the wrong container are added: structural steel chips in the stainless steel container are the most common reason for a lower classification — a magnet through the box makes them visible. Dripped, pressed and kept clean, chips are much better there.
Is it worth collecting V2A and V4A separately?
From the first grid box. In the mixture the whole delivery is evaluated according to the weaker quality, the advantage of the V4A is thus given away. Each goodness gets its own set, and each has its own set of sets, from which limit we pay more. Practically this means: two boxes instead of one, waste up to 1.5 meters long, chips in own containers. Picked up throughout Germany, delivered to Ludwigshafen without an appointment.
Do welded steel parts make scrap from a stainless steel container?
Not necessarily, but they're pulling down the classification. Foots, angles, frames and hinges made of mild steel can be seen at the seam: there the magnet adheres while it slips on the sheet metal. Saw or flex separate this in a few minutes. If insulating wool, galvanized fittings or plastic linings remain on it, they weigh with them without being stainless steel.
