Tin
Pure tin, tableware tin and soldering tin – three grades that can be distinguished with the hammer.
Two generations of technology lie side by side in the tin scrap. Until the 2000s, Sn60Pb40 was the standard solder in electronics and installation. Since the European material restriction for electrical appliances has been applied, manufacturers have soldered lead-free, mostly with a tin-silver-copper alloy of 96 percent tin. Two coils from the same drawer can therefore lie apart around a multiple, and the inscription on the coil is the most valuable document you can bring.
In the case of old tin dishes, there is a special feature that has no other metal in this program. Below about 13 degrees, tin transforms over years into a grey, powdery form. The tin fever eats out cups and figures from the inside; where the surface shows gruesome pustules, substance is irretrievably gone.
Tin is interesting in terms of utilization, because almost all the requirements are in solder, whiteplate and chemical compounds and there is hardly any replacement for the soldering area. Lot residues are thus not a residual item but raw material for exactly the same purpose — one of the few cases in which scrap metal becomes what it was.
What is the price of tin and soldering?
The quotation for tin on the London Metal Exchange is clearly higher than copper, because few countries are producing and the supply is scarcely responding. In soldering, the tin content also decides: we produce grades of around 30 to 99 percent. The rest is mostly lead, and lead is many times cheaper. Therefore, the inscription of the coil belongs to the product.
How do I distinguish pure tin from soldering?
Pure tin is light silvery and so soft that it can be bent by hand; when bending, it crunches audiblely, the old tin cry. Soldering tin with lead content looks matter and greyer. The safest indication is on the article itself: coils and rods bear the designation, for example Sn60Pb40 or Sn99. Cups and dishes are usually stamped with tin content or Britannia.
What's the price on soldering sticks?
flux in the core of the wire, plastic coils on which the residual wire sits, and soldered copper from dissolving work. The most powerful is the soldering varnish: it is to a good extent oxide and, when melted in, returns less than bare goods. Wire wrapped from the coil, slag collected separately — so each grade remains at its set.
Is a small post worth soldering, or should I collect?
Both are carried out because tin is highly valued: just a few kilograms are above the minimum payment of 25 euros. Collecting is worth twice — each Package costs 6 Euro shipping costs, which depart from the payout, and each grade has a quantity squadron, from whose limit we pay more. From the Rhein-Neckar-Raum bring the cardboard to Ludwigshafen without an appointment.
Do you buy old tin cups and tin figures?
Yeah, like tin. Check the stamp beforehand: Information such as 95 percent or Britannia stands for high tin content, older dishes often contain lead and antimony. Also check the collector's value — in the case of guild cups, jugs and figures with a brand, it is often higher than the metal value. Felt, wooden handles and glass floors are predetermined.
