Stainless steel – production, properties, purchase prices per kg & disposal

Cover image: Stainless steel – production, properties, purchase prices per kg & disposal

V2A stainless steel is one of the most well-known and widely used stainless steel alloys worldwide. The term ‘V2A' stands for: Test melt 2 austenite – a name from early metal research, which has been established to this day as a synonym for stainless steel. V2A is particularly corrosion resistant, durable and versatile – and therefore also a valuable raw material in the recycling cycle.

Scientific considerations – What is V2A?

From a scientific point of view, V2A is a Austenitic stainless steel of the quality class 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10). Its main components are: Iron (approx. 70 %), Chromium (18%) and Nickel (10%). This alloy gives V2A its typical properties:

  • high Corrosion resistance
  • good Deformability and weldability
  • Non-magnetic (austenitic structure)
  • excellent Surface resistance

Thanks to these properties, V2A is used in numerous areas – from the food industry to medical technology to architecture and mechanical engineering.

What are the abbreviations V2A and V4A for?

If you Selling stainless steel scrap often encounter the terms V2A and V4A. These are designations for: special stainless steel alloys with a defined composition. For the Stainless steel purchase The distinction is important because alloying components are the classification and hence the Purchase prices per kg (€/kg) In this context, the Commission will take into account:

V2A – stainless steel (material no. 1.4301) / Nirosta

V2A (Materials, etc.) Material number 1.4301) is often also used as a Nirosta ==References== This is a stainless steel alloy with Chromium and Nickel. V2A is very often used in everyday life and in many industrial applications. However, compared to V4A, V2A is Non-chloride resistant – therefore it is suitable for environments with salt/chlorides (e.g. This is not the case for certain maritime or chemical applications.

Typical scrap sources: stainless steel tubes, sheets, housings, kitchen parts, railings, components from production and maintenance.

V4A – stainless steel (material no. 1.4404) with molybdenum

V4A (Materials, etc.) Material number 1.4404) is also Stainless and contains: Chromium and Nickel – in addition but Molybdenum. This Molybdenum is the decisive difference to V2A and improves especially the resistance to Chlorides. Therefore, V4A is often used in more demanding environments, such as areas with salty air, parts of water management, chemical or plant engineering, and certain applications in food and pharmaceutical technology.

Typical scrap sources: plant and pipeline construction, tanks/containers, fittings, components from moist or chloride-containing processes.

Recycling of V2A stainless steel

Since V2A valuable alloy elements such as Nickel and chromium The recycling of V2A scrap is particularly economical and ecologically sensible. The metals can be recovered almost without loss thanks to modern processing methods.

The recycling process includes:

  • Magnetic and optical sorting

Where is stainless steel used?

Stainless steel is used everywhere where materials Corrosion resistant, temperature resistant and simultaneously hygienic The European Parliament Doing exactly these qualities Stainless steel (e.g. B. V2A / V4A) in many industries to standard materials – from demanding industrial plants to private households.

Typical applications of stainless steel

  • Construction and architecture: Railings, facade elements, fixtures, external components – wherever weather and humidity play a role.
  • Chemical plant construction and process industry: Pipes, containers, fittings and components that have to withstand aggressive media and high temperatures.
  • Automotive and mechanical engineering: Components, exhaust systems, brackets and components that should be mechanically resilient and durable.
  • Shipbuilding and maritime applications: Equipment, fittings and constructions exposed to salt water and high humidity.
  • Water management and environmental engineering: Pumps, filter systems, pipes and components in areas with high moisture and corrosion loads.
  • Food processing and gastronomy: Machines, work surfaces, tanks and pipes – stainless steel is here because of its Hygiene, cleaning ability and durability especially in demand.
  • Budget: Rinse, cookware, extractor, fastenings and numerous everyday products made of stainless steel.
  • Medicine and pharmaceuticals: Instruments, plant components and sterile environments in which: Purity and Corrosion protection The Commission has not yet taken a decision.

This wide use is common in industry, commerce and private Stainless steel scrap ==References====External links==* Official website B. Tube residues, sheets, container parts, chips). If you Selling stainless steel we would like to support you with a transparent Stainless steel purchase: You will receive Purchase prices per kg (€/kg) according to grade and quality – included on request Collection and container position.

Tip for a quick assessment: Share the type of stainless steel (e.g. B. V2A/V4A, massive or chips), the amount and like a photo with. So we can evaluate your stainless steel scrap faster and quickly create a suitable purchase offer for you.

How do I recognize stainless steel?

If you Detect Stainless Steel want to help some simple features. - Just in case Stainless steel scrap the correct sorting is important because it is the classification and thus the Purchase prices per kg (€/kg) The European Commission

1) Optics: silvery, shiny, "rustless

Typical for Stainless steel is a shiny silvery surface. Many stainless steels are in everyday life "Stainless- that is, they corrode significantly less than normal steel. Important: "Gross-free" does not mean that stainless steel never sets rust under all conditions. ==References==<br> B. Chlorides/salt, incorrect cleaning, rust) may also show discoloration of stainless steel surfaces.

2) Magnetic test: Stainless steel can be magnetic – or not

If Magnetic stainless steel is strongly dependent on the Alloy and structure from:

  • Many common Austenitic stainless steels (often as V2A (a) are known to be present in the Union; usually not or only weakly magnetic.
  • Other stainless steels - if you are allergic (e. g. ferritic or martensitic) to the active substance (e. g., ferritic or martensitic) or to the medicinal product (e. g., ferritic or martensitic) distinctly magnetic be.

The magnetic test is therefore a good first indication, but no definitive proof whether it is stainless steel or which grade is available.

3) Material number: unique identification

The most reliable Material number ==References== B. 1.4301, 1.4404 etc.). It gives: Clear informationwhich stainless steel or alloy is involved. In industry, the material number can often be found on delivery notes, material certificates, labels, component stamps or documentation.

Stainless steel purchase: correctly classify V2A and V4A scrap and sell better

For a fast and suitable Purchase offer it is helpful if you use your V2A scrap (1.4301) or V4A scrap (1.4404) can be assigned as unambiguously as possible – ideally via the Material number from documents, labels or material markings. Alternatively, photos and a brief description (e.g. ==References====External links==
