Copper cable purchase – cable scrap Price per kg
When purchasing copper cables, the conductor's share decides on the proceeds: four types of plug-in cables to strong current cables, Germany-wide or in Ludwigshafen.
Two deliveries can be called both "copper cables" and still be paid completely differently. The decisive factor is the percentage of conductors – i.e. the proportion of the weight that is accounted for by the copper core and not by insulation, filling layers, reinforcement or plug housing. A strong earth cable with a thin cover is a kilo far above an extension cable, although the same word is used on both delivery notes. That's why the cable purchase with us starts with a look at the scrap metal, not with a number. We buy from private individuals as well as from businesses, in Ludwigshafen am Rhein and Germany-wide. The overview of the cable types in the rest of the range shows how Copper purchase. The cable scrap price per kg can be found in the table above – for copper cables with insulation separated by conductor portion.
Buying copper by conductor share
We have four types of cables. They do not differ by colour, length or manufacturer, but only by how much copper is in the cable.
Copper cable approx. 70 %
Copper cable approx. 70 % are pipes, in which around 70 percent of the weight is attributable to the copper core: strong cross-sections with comparatively thin sheathing. Typical are high-power installations, earth cables and supply lines with large cross-sections, industrial and machine cabling as well as remnants from cable construction. In larger quantities such scrap metal is produced during dismantling, renovation and operating resolutions.
Copper cable approx. 60 %
Copper cable approx. 60 % are medium-strength lines with a balanced ratio of conductor to insulation. These include NYM cables from house installations and commercial buildings, control lines and supply lines from distribution cabinets, mostly with vein cross-sections between 1.5 mm2 and 10 mm2. This grade often arrives together with electric motors and residues from the distribution cabinet, for example after renovations, conversions or end of operation.
Cu cable mixed (38–40% Cu)
Cu cable mixed (38–40% Cu) Collects pipes with different insulations, the copper content of which is about 38 to 40 percent – besides the conductor, plastic coats and fillers weigh along. Everything is usually delivered in common: thin control lines, data cables, short pieces with rests of terminals. Such mixtures come from renovations, construction sites, industrial dismantling and storage residues.
Cu plug-in cable (30 % Cu)
Cu plug-in cable (30 % Cu) form the lowest stage: lines with connectors and connections, in which besides the conductor also plastic, plug housing and contact parts are important. The copper percentage is around 30 percent. Typical are extensions and cable drums, power cables of household and office equipment, equipment lines from workshops as well as charging and connection lines. We do not accept whole devices in this type, but cut-off cables already; batteries never belong in the package.
Is stripping worth it?
It's on the cross-section. With strong lines, stripping is almost always worthwhile – more exposed, bare wire runs as copper millberry and thus in the highest class. In the case of fine strands, multi-jacked control lines and device lines, however, the effort is rarely worthwhile: time is in no proportion to the difference in classification.
What the classification expresses is the same in all grades: double and triple coats, thick filling layers, steel reinforcement, shielding braid and co-wire made of aluminium, screwed-on clamps, cans and heavy plug housings, along with soil, gypsum and mortar residues as well as moisture. Presorted, dry and free from coarse foreign parts, the goods remain in their class. In case of doubt, we cut a piece or open a sample piece and determine the conductor part. The first grade is determined by the grade choice; it is calculated by the actual grade, not by the indication.
Copper cables Scrap prices and scrap: the same product, two names
Cable scrap is the collective term for everything that comes as a line: installation cable from the renovation, earth cables from dismantling, device and power cables, remains of the drum. Copper cables, therefore, are not a single number but a series — one per conductor share.
Price: Cable scrap with insulation by conductor part
What makes the difference is the percentage of copper in total weight. With thick individual wires it is high, with multiple sheathed plug cables low. Cable scrap with insulation is classified according to exactly this percentage, not according to the weight on the balance; the price of cable scrap with insulation follows the conductor, not the coat. You can see the grade of your goods in the list above.
Selling copper cables: three ways to us
Send in all over Germany. Choose grade, specify quantity, receive shipping label, deliver package. You can send cables to us up to 1,000 kg. After the entrance, we weigh and pay. You roll up long lines closely, collect short pieces in a sturdy cardboard box – then more weight fits into the same shipment.
Pick up from 500 kg. From 500 kg we pick up Germany-wide with our own fleet; for cable drums, grid boxes and big bags this is usually the easier way. The collection costs are staggered after distance and are fixed before the journey. For larger items request an offer in advance.
Personal delivery. Industriestraße 4, 67063 Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm, without appointment. We examine the cables together on the farm – This is how the delivery works. Further delivery points will follow.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I misjudge the grade?
Nothing. The classification will be done at the entrance, together with you in the yard or after the reception of the shipment. The invoice shall be calculated by the actual grade, not by the indication on the delivery note.
Is it worth selling smaller quantities of copper?
With strong lines with a high conductor content, a carton is worth the way. For device and plug cables, you better collect for months until the carton is full – individual cables do not bear the burden.
How do I know in advance what copper is worth?
The copper price follows the stock exchange listing and changes daily, so there are fixed numbers only as a daily price. What is being paid for per grade today is under Copper price current.
Do I have to cut plugs, clamps and cans first?
It is not necessary, often useful. Heavy attachments such as plug housing, transformer and power supply blocks or roll-on housing weigh with and lower the conductor portion. Cap it, if that is possible without much effort.
Weighing and disbursement
Weighing on calibrated scales, the weighing is yours. Payment is made within 24 hours, cash or by bank transfer. In the event of major disbursements, the Money Laundering Act requires an ID card. If you deliver commercially, the tax debtor shall apply according to § 13b of the UStG. We buy from private and commercial, as a family business with our own recyclable farm in Ludwigshafen.
